An individual who had listed a property for rent on a website reportedly lost over ₹ 5 lakh to an individual impersonating an army officer. Two Rajasthan residents, Shivkesh Bairwa (27) and Ramkesh Parjapat (29), have been apprehended in relation to the incident, according to the police.
The person who fell victim to this incident had posted the available accommodation for rent on a website. After a few days, he received a message from an individual claiming to be an army officer, expressing keen interest in renting the property.
Subsequently, the perpetrator forwarded a payment link to the property owner. Upon clicking the link, the victim’s bank account saw a deduction of ₹ 5,20,000.
According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Ankit Chauhan, after a thorough investigation, it was unveiled that the funds had been deposited across five separate bank accounts. Out of the complete sum ₹ 50,000 had been transferred to Bairwa’s bank account.
The whereabouts of the suspects were traced to Dausa in Rajasthan, and subsequent to a raid, Bairwa was taken into custody. During interrogation, he disclosed that he had transferred ownership of his account to Parjapat, who was subsequently apprehended. Parjapat, on the other hand, stated that he had further sold his account to an individual named Khaleed, who is currently evading authorities.
